What is decaf coffee?
Decaffeinated coffee, or “decaf” coffee, is a type of coffee where most of the caffeine is removed from the beans. Unlike regular coffee, which is high in caffeine, decaf undergoes a process to extract the caffeine. This allows people to enjoy the full flavor and warmth of coffee without experiencing the jitters, sleep issues, or other effects of too much caffeine. Learn more about decaffeinated coffee.
How is coffee decaffeinated?
Coffee is decaffeinated through a multi-step process that removes most of the caffeine while preserving the flavor. First, raw coffee beans are soaked or steamed to prepare them. Then, a caffeine-selective solvent or water is used to extract the caffeine. Afterward, the caffeine-rich solution is separated from the beans, and the caffeine is isolated and removed. Finally, the solvent or water is reintroduced to the beans, allowing them to absorb any lost flavor compounds, resulting in decaffeinated coffee. Learn more about decaffeinated coffee.
Why is cold brew coffee stronger?
Cold brew coffee is stronger because it uses a higher coffee-to-water ratio and is brewed slowly over an extended period (12-24 hours). This process extracts more coffee solubles, resulting in a rich and concentrated flavor. Learn more about the difference between cold brew and iced coffee.
