The shores of Tampa Bay have provided ample water sources for thousands of years. Although looking back 6,000 years ago, it was once a brackish waterway drowned by a river valley. Over time, it transformed into a large freshwater lake, likely fed by the Florida Aquifer through natural springs. The native Weedon Island Culture and Safety Harbor Cultures relied on Tampa Bay’s abundant resources from the sea. Later, Spanish settlers populated the region and enjoyed its natural water supply. In 1824, the United States purchased Florida from Spain and built Fort Brooke at the mouth of the Hillsborough River. Up until 2002, groundwater from the Hillsborough River provided the primary source of drinking water for the city.

Depending on your local water quality, your Water Expert may recommend our NSF-certified carbon filtration, which works great for water with TDS (total dissolved solids) levels under 250 ppm (parts per million) or our NSF-certified reverse osmosis (RO) filtration, which is the standard for water with TDS levels over 250ppm.
